What is the difference between hard sliders and felt sliders?
Hard sliders are made from either teflon or polyethylene plastic and are designed to move furniture across carpeted surfaces. Felt pads are made from polyester or wool and are designed to move furniture across most hard surfaces (hardwood floors, engineered hardwood floors, laminate, bamboo, ceramic, porcelain, marble, and vinyl).
back to topCan I use hard sliders on hard surfaces?
In general, felt pads are usually better on hard surfaces as they tend to slide easier and make less noise. However, hard sliders will work on some hard surfaces if that is preferable to the consumer. However, we do not recommend using hard sliders on hardwood flooring.
back to topCan I use hard sliders on hardwood floors?
We do not recommend using hard sliders on hardwood floors. It is recommended that you use felt pads on hardwood floors.
back to topWhat is the difference between reusable sliders and adhesive sliders?
Reusable sliders have an EVA Foam backing that grips and molds to the object to be moved. They can be used over and over. Adhesive sliders have a layer of adhesive on the EVA foam and are intended to be left in place and not reused. Adhesive sliders are a good choice for an object that needs to be moved regularly, like a piece of furniture that is moved regularly during cleaning.
back to topHow long do felt pads last?
It depends. A felt pad on a piece of furniture that is rarely moved may last for years. Felt pads on a chair that gets daily use will need to be changed more often. Dirt and grit will also accelerate the wear of felt pads. We recommend checking pads periodically for wear and replacing when necessary. When in doubt, replace the pad. Our value packs come with larger quantities of pads so you can replace them more often.
back to topWhat works best on concrete?
Hard plastic sliders generally work best on concrete. However, concrete will significantly shorten the life of the slider. Also, never use a slider that was used on concrete on any other surfaces as it can damage the surface.
back to topCan I use adhesive felt or adhesive sliders on angled chair legs?
Adhesive felt pads and adhesive sliders work best on straight chair legs. Angled chair legs are challenging to keep adhesive felt or adhesive sliders on long-term. Our value packs come with larger quantities of pads so you can replace them more often.
back to topWhat about grout?
Tiled surfaces with a wide grout line or sanded grout are difficult for adhesive felt or adhesive sliders. The sanded grout tends to grab the pad and pull it off. Generally, a nail-on or screw-on felt pad or slider will be a better choice for tile with sanded grout.
back to topHow do I install adhesive felt pads or sliders?
Clean off any adhesive residue. Lightly sanding wood legs will significantly help adhesion. Clean off any dust or dirt and ensure the surface is clean and dry. Peel and stick the pad in place. Although the weight of the object is usually sufficient to ensure good adhesion, sitting in the chair for a moment after installing the adhesive pads can help ensure optimal adhesion.
back to topWhen should I change my adhesive felt pads or sliders?
Adhesive felt pads need to be changed occasionally depending on environmental factors and amount of use. Check periodically for wear and replace when necessary. Our value packs ensure you can keep fresh felt pads on your furniture at all times.
